Sketchbook - Midterm

Sketchbook Started: January 11th, 2021

Sketchbook Completed: February 15th, 2021

For my sketchbook I explored different mediums, looked into some of the mentioned artists and terms, and spent some time exploring a more illustrative style as well as practicing realism. I did some blind contour and contour drawings. I didn’t spend much time working on my graphic novel, but I think this needs a bit more reworking story wise before I draw any more pages, and I need to settle on whether I’m doing it traditionally or digitally (I currently have a collection of both styles of pages and it’s beginning to get a bit confusing).

Drawing inspired by the work of Junji Ito (Uzumaki in particular). I’m a huge fan of his style of drawing and storytelling, and like how his themes tend to incorporate cosmic horror - it’s very similar to Lovecraft’s work.

Frottage research. I looked into the key words, indexicality, and the assignment. Various frottage practice below:

Figure study drawings. I used https://line-of-action.com/practice-tools/figure-drawing for my references.
Petals are from some flowers I pressed, I’m not sure what kind of flower.

Dress designs and drawings of my sisters.

A few quick doodles of Harrison from my work in progress graphic novel “The Radio Man”. Also some random sticky note doodles.

Pencil crayon drawing of Elle Fanning in The Neon Demon

Drawing in the style of Il Lee to practice scribble line

Last page :)

I kept this envelope in the back of my sketchbook and store magazine cut outs and such in it that I might want to use at some point

I recently decided to start the C.Bargue drawing course. I’m switching between charcoal and graphite for the drawings, but I like working with charcoal pencils the best (last page). These are the panels that I have done so far:

I smudged this one by accident after I was done
